From Roses to Fish Poop: A Lesson in Perspective

There was a time—not that long ago—when these elegant glass vessels held delicate pink roses and baby’s breath. They were centerpieces at our wedding. Carefully chosen. Arranged just so. Meant to be admired, photographed, and remembered.

Now? They house Pinkie and French Fry, our betta fish. And they get pooped in daily.

Ah, romance.

If you’re currently spiraling over centerpieces—be it for a wedding, a shower, a birthday bash—please let this serve as your gentle, slightly ridiculous reminder:

Time is wild. Priorities shift. And glassware is forever.

What once symbolized new beginnings now represents the beautifully messy middle. The place where love lives in lunchboxes, sticky countertops, mismatched socks, and fish with names your children insisted on.

Pinkie belongs to Kora. French Fry is Bennett’s. And yes, they take turns judging me from their jars while I stand at the sink, asking myself—yet again—why I thought pet fish were a good idea.

But here’s the thing:

There’s something kind of profound about reusing the “fancy stuff” for everyday chaos. It’s a reminder that joy doesn’t always look like it did in the Pinterest board. It evolves. It stretches. Sometimes it has fins.

So whether you're knee-deep in party planning, life planning, or just trying to make it to bedtime with your dignity intact—remember this:

The things you care about most will change. That’s not failure. That’s growth.

Let the fish poop in the vases. Let the memories get repurposed. Let it all mean something new.

Because that’s what we do—we adapt, we laugh, we rinse out the water, and we keep swimming.

Reflection Prompt:

What’s something in your life that used to represent one thing…but now holds a completely different (and maybe better) meaning?
