Idiots in Motion: Why Emotional Intelligence Might Be the Only Thing Holding Us Together

Let’s be honest: we’re all just kind of winging it. Like, constantly.

No one actually knows what they’re doing. Not your boss. Not your favorite influencer. Not even that guy in your yoga class who seems suspiciously Zen. (He's just thinking about tacos, probably.)

The Only Constant? Chaos.

Change is the only thing we can count on—and even that feels like it’s on shuffle mode. One day you feel unstoppable. The next? You cry because someone used your coffee creamer without asking.

Welcome to the human experience.

Examples of Everyday Idiocy (It’s Fine. We’re Fine.)

  • Locking your keys in your car… while the car is running.

  • Sending a text about someone… to the person you’re texting about.

  • Forgetting your kid’s name and cycling through the dog’s, your coworker’s, and possibly your high school boyfriend’s before landing on the right one.

  • Buying avocados, forgetting them, and discovering them 6 days later in full squishy betrayal mode.

And don’t get me started on Smart People Fails:

  • NASA astronauts have forgotten gravity exists after re-entry and tried to let go of pens mid-air. (Plop.)

  • Doctors who leave stethoscopes in the fridge.

  • Neuroscientists who burn toast. Daily.

We’re All Idiots. So Now What?

Instead of trying to be perfect (spoiler: it’s not happening), let’s focus on something more helpful: emotional intelligence.

EQ doesn’t mean you’re emotionally bulletproof. It means you:

  • Notice your own emotional chaos (without spiraling...most days)

  • Accept that people are gonna be people

  • Choose grace over rage when your partner loads the dishwasher wrong. Again.

How EQ Saves the Day (Or at Least Makes It Slightly Less Awkward)

EQ lets you:

  • Pause before reacting like a gremlin

  • Laugh at yourself when you screw up

  • Give grace to others when they do (because…they will)

  • Stay curious instead of judgmental (usually after caffeine)

The Real Truth?

We’re all just idiots in motion—trying our best, messing things up, and learning on the fly. The faster we embrace that truth, the easier it is to:

  • Show compassion

  • Build connection

  • Not implode when things go sideways (which they will)

TL;DR:

  • Everyone’s winging it.

  • Even astronauts forget basic science.

  • Emotional intelligence helps you laugh, learn, and live through the messiness.

So give yourself (and the people around you) a break. We’re all on this weird, spinning rock together, bumping into each other with coffee breath and questionable decision-making skills.

And honestly? It’s kind of beautiful.

Want to boost your EQ and learn how to handle life’s nonsense with a little more humor and a lot more heart? Stick around. You’re in the right place.
